MUMBAI: In an hour-long, freewheeling address to the legislative assembly following the trust vote, chief minister Eknath Shinde defended his decision to break away from Uddhav Thackeray, saying his position had been repeatedly undermined in the party despite a lifetime of service and sacrifice.
Taking a swipe at the dynastic leadership of the Shiv Sena, he said, "We were not born with a golden spoon, but why can't a common man be the CM?” Shinde said he was in contention for the CM’s post back in 2019 when the government was being formed, but opposition to his candidature came from within.
