The FC Sheriff crowd didn't seem concerned that Cristiano Ronaldo scored against their side as they shouted the Manchester United star's trademark after his goal.
The Moldovan minnows, who shocked Real Madrid in the Champions League last season, were beaten by the Red Devils in the Europa League on Thursday. Jadon Sancho opened the scoring before Ronaldo doubled United's lead from the spot - scoring for the first time this season.
Under Erik ten Hag, Ronaldo has had to accept a new role which has seen his minutes limited in the Premier League, but he has played in both Europa League games thus far. He scored from 12 yards just before the 40 minute mark and as he ran off to do his usual celebration cries of "siuu" could be heard from the crowd.
Ronaldo made it known he wanted to leave in the summer and, up until deadline day, his representatives were looking for ways out of Manchester after just one season back at the club. United though stood firm and Ten Hag is prepared to utilise Ronaldo as and when it suits the team.
There was talk of the veteran forward, despite him being prolific last term, having a negative impact on the dressing room in what was a poor season. Ronaldo was absent for much of pre-season but his manager is convinced he remains committed to the cause.
He said: "We could expect this when you miss pre-season so he has to work really hard and invest to get the right fitness then he will score more goals. You can see he is really close when he gets fitter he will finish them.
"I think [he is] totally committed to this project and totally committed to this team, totally involved. You see also connections coming around him and he is constructing connections so I am happy with that."
Ronaldo has made six appearances for United in the league this term, but only one of those has been as a starter - the 4-0 humiliation at Brentford. Since then Ten Hag has found a formula that has worked with the Red Devils winning four on the bounce as they rise up the table.
There has now been talk of a January exit for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who could continue to play a squad role at Old Trafford. Ten Hag is set to continue his squad overhaul with a £70m budget set aside, but that could rise to £100m if Ronaldo does leave as his hefty wages will then be off the books.
