Sheridan Smith sparks concern after quitting her judging role on ITV's Starstruck

Sheridan Smith has reportedly sparked concern amongst her friends after quitting her judging role on ITV's Starstruck.

The broadcaster confirmed her departure from the fun-loving show last week due to "scheduling conflicts".

Announcing the news in a statement, ITV said: "She was a fantastic judge and provided some invaluable feedback to the contestants. We wish her all the best."

However, it's claimed Sheridan's friends have since become "worried" over her increasing workload.

This year alone, the theatre star has appeared in a number of TV roles and also has a new film out this month.

Sheridan previously suffered from "stress and exhaustion" in 2016, forcing her to take a leave of absence from her starring role in the West End show Funny Girl.

Commenting on her current workload, an insider told Closer magazine: "It's been a really tough time for Sheridan lately, because even though her career keeps going from strength to strength, she's also desperately needed same time out for her personal life.

"Sheridan recently admitted that she was coming apart at the seams by doing back-to-back jobs and not giving herself time to come up for air, which is why she quit Starstruck."

The publication also claimed Sheridan's loved ones have encouraged her to "practice self-care" and "balance" her workload.

"She agrees and knows [son] Billy needs a happy and healthy mum above all else," the source added.

It comes after ITV announced Sheridan's exit from Starstruck following one series as a judge.

The mother-of-one appeared on the show alongside Queen singer Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight and comedian Jason Manford.

An ITV spokesperson told MailOnline: "We would have loved Sheridan to have returned to the show but she has sadly had to decline due to scheduling conflicts with a new acting project.

"The team absolutely loved working with her, she was a fantastic judge and provided some invaluable feedback to the contestants. We wish her all the best.

Starstruck sees ordinary people transform into their singing idols as they compete in teams - and features lookalike and soundalikes much like Stars In Their Eyes, which aired on ITV from 1990 to 2006.

The news about Sheridan's role on Starstruck comes a few weeks after she was spotted looking 'very happy and relaxed' while out for dinner with a mystery man in London.

The 41-year-old actress broke up with insurance broker fiancé Jamie Horn last year after three years of being together – and after welcoming their son, Billy, in May 2020.

The Sun on Sunday published a snap Sheridan and the mystery man chatting to a woman in the restaurant, while looking happy in each others’ company.

A fellow diner told the publication: “Sheridan arrived with her date at about 6.30 and they sat in the window, enjoying the sun. Neither was dressed up.

“Sheridan was in a black hoodie and sunglasses – but they seemed very happy and relaxed. After their drinks and dinner, they left together," they added.

The Mirror has contacted a representative for Sheridan Smith for comment.
