Households on 14 streets and residential complexes in Shelby Township are being told to boil their tap water before drinking it or cooking with it after a water main broke near 25 Mile Road and Mound Road on Sept. 30. The Shelby Township Department of Public Works issued the advisory for all properties in the area "as a precaution," according to ClickOnDetroit, which reported that the break happened at around 12:45 p.m.
No contamination has been confirmed. The advisory is a protective step taken while crews repair the line and the water is tested. Officials said they hoped to resolve the problem within 48 hours, and the advisory "will remain in effect until testing confirms that the water is safe to drink," the outlet reported.
