Shelbourne appoint ex-South Africa Cycling official as new CEO

Shelbourne have appointed former Cycling South Africa CEO Barry Mocke as their new Chief Executive Officer.

Mocke moved to Dublin last Christmas after several years spent working in the high-performance sport sector in his home country.

He also held the role of General Manager at the Balderstone Sports Institute in South Africa.

Reds chairman Andrew Doyle said: “Barry has been working in prominent, leadership roles in sport and business for many years and has a lot of valuable experience, knowledge and skills that will add substantially to the club.

“We are absolutely delighted to have secured the services of someone of the calibre of Barry and believe he will play an integral role in enhancing and accelerating the continued growth of the club, both on, and off the pitch.”

Mocke added: “I am very honoured and thrilled to be joining the Shelbourne FC team at this exciting stage of the club’s journey.

“My interactions with the directors have been very positive and I am appreciative to be able to spend some time with (outgoing CEO) Dave O’Connor before he leaves us.

“The rich tradition of Shels and the ambitious plans the board has for the future of the club, makes it an exciting place to be.

“I look forward to working towards the aspirational performance goals, on and off the field, and engaging with the Shels community. Thank you for the opportunity.”
