Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is calling for investigations into the deaths of 17 Mexican migrants during encounters with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying officials or private detention contractors should face consequences if they are found responsible.
"We want an investigation to be carried out and, if any member of ICE, or any private contractor responsible for running or overseeing a detention center, was responsible, then action should be taken," Sheinbaum said in her daily conference. "There are simply too many cases."
