The Glazer family could now be starting to see the end of their time as the majority owners of Manchester United - with reports suggesting that Sheikh Jassim will make a world-record bid to buy the Red Devils.
The Glazers have been in majority control of United since 2005, and whilst the club initially underwent a period of success over a six-year spell after they joined which included three consecutive Premier League titles and three Champions League finals, it has been a barren spell ever since.
United's last Premier League title came in the 2012-13 season, with only an FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and Europa League title to their name since 2015. For a club that was undoubtedly the most successful in England and arguably Europe for a period of at least 20 years, standards have been dwindling in the red half of Manchester - with fans believing the buck to fall with the Glazer family, who have been nothing short of detrimental in their reign as owners of the Mancunian outfit.
But reports began to emerge in the World Cup period that they were finally looking to sell the club after numerous protests and chants at almost every home game showing that fans wanted them out of the club. Sir Jim Ratcliffe was one name touted with the new ownership with the tycoon reportedly willing to part with £5billion to take over from the American-based family. But, according to Sky Sports, Saudi's Sheikh Jassim is readying a bid - which would see him take over in a world-record bid for any sports organisation.
The current world record is £3.75billion, when the Walton-Penner family took over the Denver Broncos. United would join Manchester City and Newcastle United as the clubs who have Middle Eastern ownership - becoming the three richest teams in the Premier League in the process.
