Lee Bullen has called on his old Sheffield Wednesday mates in a bid to inspire a play-off miracle.
The Owls legend hopes to tap into the Hillsborough magic which saw Darren Moore’s side overturn a 4-0 deficit against Peterborough last week.
Wednesday's comeback has been hailed as one of the greatest in play-off history after they had looked on the canvas following a first leg thumping. Bullen knows United need more of the same if they’re to overhaul Partick’s three goal lead tomorrow night. But he believes The Honest Men CAN get Somerset rocking – and spark similar scenes to those in South Yorkshire.
He told the Ayrshire Post: “I spoke to Darren at the weekend and what they did was incredible. We have to believe we can do similar. It’s all about creating a positive mindset among the players.
“We know what we’re capable of on our day and have proven it this season. We allowed ourselves to hurt for 48 hours after the result up there but now we are fully focused on what we need to do on Friday night.
“We need to have a go and score the goals to get us back in the tie. So for us it is really simple.”
Bullen added: “Our fanbase has been tremendous this season – it was bitterly disappointing not to give them a performance up there on Friday night. But they can play such a massive part again at Somerset. We’ve seen big atmospheres inside the place and what that can do.
“We only need to look back to Partick coming here on the final day of last season and what a special night that was.”
Ayr hope to have talisman Dipo Akinyemi fit again after a back strain ruled him out of the Firhill defeat. The 24-goal striker has been back in training this week.
