Sheffield United make major transfer decisions ahead of Nottingham Forest play-off clash

Sheffield United have announced a major transfer decision less than 24 hours before their Championship play-off semi-final clash with Nottingham Forest.

The Blades host Steve Cooper's side in the first-leg of their play-off meetings at Bramall Lane on Saturday (May 14). The second leg will take place under the City Ground lights on Trentside on Tuesday (May 17).

But with less than a day to go until kick-off, the Blades have announced that former Forest duo David McGoldrick and Luke Freeman will be released from their contracts alongside Lys Mousset.

McGoldrick has proven to be a fan-favourite in South Yorkshire having been a key part in the Blades squad which won promotion to the Premier League after his move from Ipswich Town in 2018. This season has proved to be particularly difficult for him, however, with injuries limiting the Republic of Ireland international to just nine Championship starts.

A Nottingham-born striker, McGoldrick scored nine times in 73 appearances for the Reds before joining Ipswich on a loan and then permanently. Also to be released from the Blades is ex-Forest loanee Freeman who has spent this season at Millwall on a temporary basis.

United have also announced that ex-Forest academy youngster Ben Osborn has had a 12-month option on his contract taken up.
