'She's the most nervous dog we've ever had at the kennels - she's finding life here overwhelming and urgently needs a home'

A dog rescue centre has issued an urgent appeal to find a home for "one of the most nervous dogs it has had at the rescue". Many Tears Animal Rescue centre has had three-year-old Springer Octavia at its base in Cefneithin, Llanelli, since November last year. But they said she was finding life at the kennel "overwhelming".

The charity said she needed a quiet home to reach her full potential, something they did not believe she would be able to achieve as long as she remained there. An appeal explained how she would need a special understanding and loving home with adopters who would do everything they could to prove she was safe.

Octavia has been described as a "project dog who may never be ‘normal", but one who "deserves the world" and deserves to find her "happy ever after". Get stories like this straight to your inbox with our newsletters.

An appeal from the rescue centre read: "Octavia is a three-year-old Springer who arrived with us in November last year. Unfortunately, she’s one of the most nervous dogs we’ve ever had at the rescue and she’s finding kennel life quite overwhelming. Even though she has made a lot of progress since she first arrived, she desperately needs a calm and quiet home to help her reach her full potential, as we don’t think she’ll be able to do that here. She thrives on having a routine and knowing what’s coming next, and she does stress out a lot if anything throws her.

"She has no malice in her at all and even when she’s in panic mode she never tries to hurt us, she just paces frantically and it can be hard to snap her out of it. Thankfully, these episodes have become less and less the longer she’s been with us and she hasn’t had one for a couple of months now. This is definitely because she’s settled into her routine here now and we literally do everything we can to keep her stress levels down.

"On the brighter side of life, Octavia loves food more than anything and she’ll take treats off anyone she meets which is incredible for a dog as scared as she is. She also adores a warm, comfy bed which she uses as her safe space in her kennel. Octavia will need an extremely patient, understanding and loving home with adopters who will do everything they can to prove to her that she’s safe.

"Everything will need to be taken slow with her not to overwhelm her, but we do genuinely believe that in a calm home she’ll come on a lot faster than she has in kennels. She’ll need to learn all the basics such as house training and lead walking, but at her own pace. She may not be confident enough to go out for walks for a long time, so her adopters must be okay with this. The home must also be adult only with no visiting children, and there will need to be at least one kind and confident resident dog.

"This poor girl is a project dog, and she may never be ‘normal’, but there has to be someone out there who will love her anyway. She really does deserve the world and more and our hearts honestly break for her. We just really hope her happy ever after finds her soon."
