Maharashtra’s Prachiti Nagpurkar has made history at the Asian Games by becoming the first Indian to referee a mixed martial arts (MMA) bout at the continental multi-sport event. Her achievement comes after she walked away from a career in chartered accountancy to pursue her passion for MMA officiating.
Nagpurkar officiated one of the semifinal bouts at the Nagoya City Inae Sports Center, where MMA made its debut at the Asian Games. She has also officiated at the Asian Games qualifiers, the Asian Championships in Uzbekistan and China, and the South East Asian Games this year.
