Shaun Ryder makes four word wish for brother Paul's legacy after Happy Mondays star's death

Shaun Ryder has made a four word wish for his brother Paul's legacy after the Happy Mondays legend's death at the age of 58, on the same day the band were due to play in front of thousands fans in Sunderland.

Early on Friday afternoon, organisers of Kubix festival, which has taken over Herrington Park, near Penshaw Monument, this weekend, took to Facebook to disappoint ticket holders with the news that they'd been advised that Step On icons Happy Mondays would no longer be playing that evening.

Initially, no reason was given for their no show but then, hours later it was announced by the group that bass player Paul had passed away, with a statement posted and then widely shared on social media reading: "His death was announced on the Happy Mondays' Facebook page, with the band writing: 'The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning.

Fans were quick to pay tribute to Paul, as well as offering their condolences to sibling Shaun and the rest of the group and Shaun shared the same statement on his own Instagram, which ended with the closing line 'Long live his funk.'

A third posted: "Oh no!! His bass playing was absolutely central to the HM's sound. RIP indeed."
