Shaun O’Hara: Giants ‘drooling over’ WR Rome Odunze

Following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, rumors began to spread about the New York Giants and how they intended to address the quarterback position this offseason.

Some of that speculation suggested a growing interest in Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy while more centered around Daniel Jones and his future with the team.

Rich Eisen shared a particularly juicy rumor that the Giants were “absolutely done” with Jones before acknowledging that he could be entirely wrong about that gossip.

Retired Giants offensive lineman Shaun O’Hara didn’t hear those rumors but does have a little bit of inside information of his own.

While appearing on NFL Total Access earlier this week, O’Hara revealed that the Giants are “drooling over” wide receiver Rome Odunze.

“I know the Giants are drooling over this guy,” O’Hara said. “If he’s there at six, I don’t see any way they pass him up.

“He may have leap-frogged Marvin Harrison. With what Rome Odunze did in the drills, in all the testing, the jumps, the running, I thought he was phenomenal. I think he showed that he is just as smooth as any other receiver out there.”

The difference between Eisen’s “I heard” and O’Hara’s “I know” is noteworthy.

The Giants will address the quarterback position this offseason and you can’t rule out a trade back up into the first round for someone like McCarthy, but assuming they add to the offensive line in free agency, a WR1 is the team’s top priority.

General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll met with Odunze at the Combine and that meeting reportedly went well. The prospect was impressed with the regime and said he feels the Giants have a bright future.

Will Odunze himself be a part of it? Shaun O’Hara certainly believes so.
