Shaun Maloney denies Hibs star Chris Mueller 'dived' after costly penalty snub against Dundee United

Defiant Shaun Maloney insists Hibs should have been had a penalty rather than see forward Chris Mueller booked for simulation.

The Hibees held on to their top six spot thanks to Harry Clarke's equaliser cancelling out Dundee United 's opener from Ross Graham.

The decisive moment in the clash almost came when Mueller appeared to be fouled by Ilmari Niskanen in the box, but referee Don Robertson waved away the claim and booked the American.

Maloney insists it was a clear foul on the Hibs man, but was keen to focus on the Premiership top six race with a massive Edinburgh Derby to come next weekend.

When asked about the decision on Sky Sports he said: "Yeah, I have seen it again.

"I knew there was contact at the time. They have got the wrong decision, it's a penalty. But it's done, but yeah you move on.

When pushed on if it was the way Mueller had went down, he said: "Listen, you'll have to ask the ref.

"These things happen. I know there are lots of moments throughout the season, this instance again, that have maybe fallen on the other side for us.

"There is contact with the knee, Chris has been fouled.

"It is what it is, I don't need to keep chatting about it."
