In one of the most dramatic days in the history of the Special Criminal Court, Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch walked free after being found not guilty of the murder of David Byrne.
The Regency shooting trial captivated the nation after Hutch was arrested charged with murdering Kinahan associate David Byrne.
Hutch, who always denied the murder of 33-year-old Byrne during a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel on 5 February 2016, learned his fate on Monday after more than a year in custody.
Inside the courtroom, Irish Daily Star chief reporter and co-host of the Shattered Lives podcast Paul Healy spent the day delivering minute by minute updates as people across the country waited to hear the outcome.
Paul, who has covered what was dubbed by many as 'the trial of the century' extensively, speaks in the latest episode of Shattered Lives about what he experienced reporting from inside the courts in what was a dramatic day from start to finish.
For the previous 52 days of his trial, Hutch had been brought in and out of court from Wheatfield prison.
But on this 53rd and final occasion, rather than being flanked into the precincts with prison officers, he got to walk out the front door of the court like every other person who was in there to observe the judgement.
In the meantime, journalists scrambled down to get outside the building, one of which was Paul who witnessed the chaotic scenes first hand.
Listen to Paul and Crime Correspondent Mick O'Toole recount all the detail of the dramatic court proceedings and what's next for Hutch after walking free from court.
