Sharp drop in number of Dumfries and Galloway residents seeking work and claiming benefits

Dumfries Galloway Department of Work and Pensions

The number of people seeking work and claiming benefits in Dumfries and Galloway has dropped sharply.

Figures released by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) show 2,470 jobless in January – 700 fewer than 12 months ago.

However, the decline is not evenly spread across all age groups with the young finding it most difficult to find meaningful employment.
