Sharon Stone urges women to 'get second opinion' after tumour misdiagnosis

Sharon Stone has urged other women to get a second opinion after she found herself misdiagnosed by doctors after discovering she had a tumour.

The Hollywood icon found herself struggling with poor health and sought help from doctors who failed to correctly figure out what was going on with her.

Sharon, 64, shared her experience with her followers on Twitter as she used what had happened to her to encourage other women to "always" seek a second opinion.

The Basic Instinct star had already undergone a procedure that she discovered would not help her problem before she sought the advice of a second medical team.

Now she needs an operation to remove a fibroid tumour that was missed by the original doctors treating her.

She shared with her followers on the social networking site: "Just had another misdiagnosis and incorrect procedure. This time double epidural. With worsening pain went for a SECOND OPINION: I have a large fibroid tumour that must come out."

The actress then used her platform to further raise awareness as she urged other women not to let themselves end up in the same position as her and seek more advice as "it can save your life."

She continued: "Ladies in particular: Don't get blown off. Get a second opinion. It can save your life. I'll be down for 4-6 weeks for full recovery. Thx for your care. It's all good."

The Golden Globe winner then shared a link to a study with her followers highlighting the cause.

The piece titled Women More Likely Than Men to Suffer Misdiagnosis, According to Studies further supported her reasoning in warning her female followers to stay on top of their own health and not rely solely on medical professionals.

Her fans then rushed to support her, sending an array of replies that agreed with her take ion the situation, as her followers also shared their own experiences.

One wrote: "My wife went through this several years ago Sharon. Oddly, her pain wasn't constant, but when it hit it would send her into orbit. It was simply unbearable.

"She finally received an accurate diagnosis followed by surgery. Recovery was a bit slow but she did fine."

Another posted: "Oh no babe. I had the exact same 3 years ago. You was so right to get a second opinion. Hope you have a speedy recovery. All my love."

A third social media user tweeted: "I'm so sorry to hear that you are ill. Best wishes for surgery and a speedy recovery. Thanks for always sharing your experiences with us and for looking out for us!"

A fourth thanked her for her efforts adding: "Oh no! So sorry to hear this. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Take care of yourself! Virtual hugs to you.

"Thanks for the information about getting a second opinion. It could literally save someone’s life. You’re always so truthful and thoughtful."
