Sharon Eyal at Bold Tendencies
(Picture: Hannah Barry)Which side of the Sharon Eyal divide are you on? To her fans, she’s an innovator, a master technician, using her brutal, futuristic choreography to showcase her dancers’ bodies in radical ways. But to others, her works can be a frustrating experience: repetitive, detached, even icy, despite often centring on the themes of love and loss. Yes, it’s all technically impressive, so the complaints go, but where’s the heart?
Anyone on the fence should check out the Israeli choreographer’s latest shows at Peckham’s Bold Tendencies, a multi-storey car park turned arts centre and hipster hangout, to which Eyal and her company L-E-V have been returning since 2019.
