A sea turtle managed a lucky escape after it came face-to-face with a terrifying tiger shark.
The incredible moment was caught on camera and showed the two sea creatures violently thrashing around near the water's surface.
The sea turtle managed to miraculously escape the clutches of the shark just before it clasped its jaws shut.
The heart-in-mouth video clip was captured by photographer Dylan DeHaason on the Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia, about 1,200 kilometres from Perth.
Dylan described the encounter as among one of the wildest things he's ever seen.
It appeared the turtle cleverly used its shell to stop the shark from capturing it, instead flipping around to bat away any contact.
Dylan said that he's seen a similar incident before but could never capture it on camera.
"I spend a lot of time filming and photographing nature but this is up in my top five things I've seen," he told Yahoo News Australia.
"The tiger shark eventually gave up as the turtle put up an awesome fight.
"The turtle managed to get onto the beach out of the tiger shark's reach."
Considered one of the largest sharks, the tiger shark commonly reaches a length of 10-14 ft and weighs over 385-635kg.
Earlier this year, dramatic footage showed the moment a huge tiger shark lunged at a paddleboarder and chomped through his board, throwing him in the ocean off Western Australia.
Brodie Moss filmed the remarkable footage as the massive predator tried to catch a giant turtle just inches below his toes - and narrowly missed him as the shark bit through his paddle board instead.
The footage was shared by Brodie to his one million Instagram followers as well as on his YBS Youngbloods YouTube channel.
He wrote alongside the video on Instagram: "A humbling reminder for myself that it’s their ocean and I’m just a visitor!
"I love sharks and this little accident was not the big fella's fault."
Western Australia is notorious for being one of the top shark attack places in the world.
Back in November 2020, a bodyboarder was mauled to death near Broome, which was the eighth lethal attack that year.
