Australian shares slide after record-breaking ride

The local bourse has dropped almost across the board, but the losses waned in the afternoon to extend its winning streak to three weeks.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down as much as 1.4 per cent in the first 10 minutes of trading but finished Friday just 64.9 points down at a one-week low of 7,971.6, a drop of 0.81 per cent. For the week, it rose 0.15 per cent.
