Share your DIY disasters and unfinished projects to win professional help

UK homeowners have the chance to win a 1-2-1 online design consultation with TV star and interior design expert Siobhan Murphy as part of a new nationwide prize draw launching today.

The prize draw is part of Shawbrook’s mission to inspire people to pick back up their paintbrushes and tool kits and finish any half-a-job DIY projects around their homes & gardens this summer.

A total of three £500 vouchers are also up for grabs that can be spent at a range of DIY stores, with one lucky winner given the chance to win the design consultation with Siobhan.

All entrants need to do is complete a short online survey and share their half-started and half-hearted DIY projects in their homes – big or small – to be entered into the prize draw.

From today until 19 June, entrants can sign up here: www.shawbrook.co.uk/direct/personal-loans/di-y-did-i-bother/. T&Cs apply.

Siobhan Murphy said: “I’m thrilled to be working with Shawbrook to help people turn their DIY disasters around. Whether you’ve given up on a garden project, thrown the towel in on a bathroom remodel, or deserted the new kitchen designs, we want to hear from you.

“My favourite part of the job is providing design and creative counsel, so I’m really looking forward to working with the winner and helping them form a plan to complete the DIY project they’ve been struggling to get off the ground.”

Shawbrook’s campaign - ‘DI-Y Did I Bother?’ - sees the bank team up with Siobhan Murphy to also create a whole host of tips and videos on its website to support consumers with their DIY projects.

New research by Shawbrook found that more than half (56%) of UK homeowners claim their property is a ‘work in progress’, with an average of five DIY jobs currently left unfinished in each household.

The top reasons for these jobs dragging on longer than expected include not having the skills required to complete them (22%) underestimating the time it would take to manage the project (20%).

And of the jobs that do get started, nearly one in five (18%) aren’t finished due to under budgeting for the costs.

Sally Conway, Head of Consumer Communications, said: “It’s a problem that resonates with many of us, we start a DIY project with the best intentions, only for it to be left unfinished or incomplete – whether that’s because we haven’t budget correctly or we lack the time and resource to get the job finished.

“Ahead of the Jubilee bank holiday, we know that many homeowners will be turning their attention to DIY projects, which is why we’re launching this campaign and partnering with Siobhan to equip people with the right tools and support they need to finish the job at hand.

“Our campaign aims to inspire people to finish their half-started jobs as well as offering tips for budgeting and planning to help with their next project. We want to encourage people to pick up their toolkits or paintbrushes and complete their unfinished DIY jobs around the home – while one lucky winner could consider how to transform their home with the expertise and creative eye of Siobhan helping them along the way!”
