Shardul Thakur to play 2 matches for Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy

MUMBAI: In a big boost for Mumbai, India's pace-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur will turn out for two of their matches in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (one-dayers).

TOI has learnt that Thakur will play against Saurashtra in Alur on December 1, and versus Tripura in Bangalore on December 3. "He is then likely to leave for the tour of South Africa, as he could be picked for either the India A side, or the Indian team," a source said.

Thakur was recently released by his IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders, and could thus be available in the IPL auction. The 32-year-old played three games in the recently-held 2023 ODI World Cup, in which he took two wickets@51.00.

Mumbai, who have won all their three games so far and top Group A, wil play Pondicherry on Wednesday.

MCA makes entry free for spectators for women's matches

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Cricket Association president Amol Kale and members of the Apex Council have decided that spectators will be granted free entry to watch the Indian women's team's matches at the Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium against England and Australia next month.
