The Delhi BJP on Sunday organised a protest at Connaught Place, less then a kilometre away from Jantar Mantar, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was holding a hunger strike. The party demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. Mr. Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody till April 15 and is lodged in Tihar Jail, and the AAP has said that he will continue as the Chief Minister of Delhi even from behind bars.
At the busy market, the BJP put up an exhibition of “corruption” at which an alleged model of the renovated Chief Minister’s bungalow in Civil Lines was put on display, with the BJP calling the public to see for themselves the opulence of the residence, which they have termed ‘Sheeshmahal’, allegedly built with public funds during the COVID-19 pandemic. A selfie point with the name ‘Sharab se Sheeshmahal tak’ was also set up at the protest venue with liquor bottle-shaped cut-outs of AAP leaders accused in the alleged excise policy scam.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva addressing the protest gathering. “We have organised this protest to show the people of Delhi how the AAP made money through the Delhi liquor policy that is under investigation and how Mr. Kejriwal, who said that he was an aam aadmi (common man) and would not take a government bungalow, built such a luxurious house for himself,” Mr. Sachdeva said. He added that when people came to Delhi, they visit the Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Akshardham Mandir and other places of interest, and now they could come see the “model of the Taj Mahal of corruption in the form of the Chief Minister’s new house”.

Mr. Sachdeva said that the AAP should not be organising a hunger protest but should be asking for forgiveness from the people of Delhi for indulging in corruption.
