Police investigating the death of Shane Whitla have charged two further men with murder.
The 39-year-old father-of-four, was discovered in Lord Lurgan Park in Lurgan last week. Police said he was shot in an alleyway near his home before making his way to the park, where he was discovered.
The PSNI announced late on Friday night that a 29-year-old man has been charged with murder and is due to appear before magistrates on Saturday. Hours earlier police said they had charged a 28-year-old man with murder and possession of firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
A statement released just after 11pm on Friday evening from the PSNI read: "Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Major Investigation Team, investigating the murder of Shane Whitla in Lurgan on Thursday 12th January, have charged a 29-year-old man. The man has been charged with murder and is due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates' Court on Saturday, 21st January."
A statement earlier in the evening from the police read: "Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland Major Investigation Team investigating the murder of Shane Whitla in Lurgan on Thursday January 12 have charged a 28-year-old man.
"The man has been charged with murder and possession of firearms and ammunition with intent to endanger life. He is due before Lisburn Magistrates Court on Saturday January 21."
Meanwhile, earlier on Friday – Kevin Conway, of Deeny Drive, Lurgan, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Mr Whitla.
Appearing via video link, the 25-year-old said “yeah” when asked if he understood the charges. A detective constable told the court he believes he can connect the accused with the charge.
His defence lawyer said Conway has “totally denied any involvement with this murder”, and intends to apply for bail.
District Judge Bernie Kelly listed the next hearing in the case for a bail application on January 27.
