'Shameful' flytipping sees rubbish strewn across Wirral street

A "shameful" flytipping incident has seen piles of rubbish strewn across a Wirral street.

Items including pieces of furniture, wheels and bottles can be seen blocking the street in pictures shared on social media.

The shocking dumping has taken place near Rock Retail Park, in Birkenhead, Wirral.

Posting about the incident on Twitter, Aaron Wilson said: “Whoever did this needs to really re-evaluate what they do for a living, because it's shameful.”

Wirral Council said it always attempts to prosecute anyone who tips waste on public land.

Biffa, the council’s waste management contractor, will also be informed so the waste can be removed.

A Wirral Council spokesperson said: “The fly tipping will be logged for Environmental Enforcement to inspect for evidence [leading] to an offender. We will always seek to prosecute anyone who fly tips on public land.

“Similarly it will also be reported immediately to Wirral’s Street Cleansing Contractor Biffa to remove the waste.”

Fly tipping is classed as the illegal dumping of waste, such as old sofas, mattresses and tyres, onto any land that is not an authorised waste disposal site.

Waste that has been tipped is usually removed within five working days of it being reported to Biffa.
