Shakur Stevenson proposed to his long time girlfriend after outpointing Oscar Valdez to become a unified champion.
Olympic silver medalist Stevenson remained unbeaten as a professional by picking up the biggest win of his career against Valdez on Saturday night. The 24-year-old won a lopsided decision against Valdez over 12 rounds to add the WBC title to his 130lb collection.
The boxer then shocked the crowd and his team during his post-fight interview by getting down on one knee and proposing to his long time girlfriend rapper 'Young Lyric'. She was visibly taken back by his proposal but said yes as the pair embraced in the ring.
Lyric announced she was expecting her first child together with Stevenson before his fight against Jamel Herring last October. Two months later Lyric gave birth to their daughter, Leilani.
After picking up the 18th win of his career, Stevenson is hoping to become an undisputed champion at 130lbs before an eventual move up to lightweight. He praised Valdez for his gutsy performance and thinks the Mexican will be a future champion in the weight class.
"I told y'all what I was going to do, I said I'm going to beat Valdez, Canelo and Eddy Reynoso. That was my gameplan, beat the whole team and I feel good about it. No disrespect to them, but that was my gameplan," Stevenson said.
"Oscar Valdez is a tough champion, I don't take nothing away from him. He's rough rugged, got good power and will be a champion after this. I'm a superstar in this sport, line them up and name them, I'm ready for whoever. I might go collect all the belts at 130lbs and become undisputed."

The celebrations for Stevenson's proposal and world title win were cut short as a brawl involving his mother took place after the fight. Whilst addressing the media, Stevenson rushed off the stage to aid his mother and friends in the scuffle.
According to reports, two women are accused of attacking Stevenson’s mother which is why he cut his post-fight interviews short to rescue her. Video footage of the brawl shows several people scuffling inside the MGM Grand before Las Vegas security tried to get the situation under control.
Security and police manage to get Stevenson, his friends and family shut inside a room to calm down the situation as people are eventually cleared from the area.
