Shakira is reportedly back on track to move to Miami, after a delay following her father’s poor health.
The Columbian singer, 46, is said to be moving to the Sunshine State with two sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, eight, shared with ex Gerard Piqué, in three weeks’ time. The move was reportedly agreed upon in the custody deal between Shakira and Piqué, 36.
Shakira was originally expected to relocate to Miami at the beginning of January, however the move was cancelled at the time as her 91-year-old dad’s health declined after suffering a nasty fall.
It has been reported by Catalan newspaper El Periodico that the Hips Don’t Lie star is now set a date for April 1 to head to the States, leaving her family home in Barcelona, Spain.
Journalist Laura Fa told the publication: “What we’re being told today is that she’s got a scheduled date to move there which would be April 1. If everything pans out she wants to go on that date.”
Fellow journalist Lorena Vasquez said: “This is information we’re receiving from the former couple’s closest circle.
“The only obstacle would be the health of Shakira’s father and it’s been well-documented that his health is a little bit complicated at the moment.
“Shakira’s idea is to take advantage of the Spring Break in the States to be able to travel to Miami with her sons so they could start their classes when the children there come back to class.”
Shakira’s delayed move was reported by the two Catalan journalists in January.
Fa claimed at the time: “[Shakira] cannot make the trip to Miami at the moment.
“The state of health of her father is very complicated and he wouldn’t be able to cope with the flight unless it’s in a medicalised aircraft. For the time being she’s going to stay put in Barcelona.”
Shakira has primary custody of her two children following her split from Spanish ex-footballer Piqué. The pair confirmed their separation in a joint statement last May.
Following the split, Shakira is thought to be determined to resettle in Mami with her sons, joining some of her extended family who are based over there.
The move is understood to have been the main sticking point in former couple Shakira and Piqué’s prior failure to strike an out-of-court settlement.
