Shakira's mum rushed to hospital as doctors find blood clot in leg

Shakira's mum Nidia Ripoll has reportedly been rushed to hospital "as a matter of urgency" after a blood clot in her leg was discovered.

Nidia was said to have initially suffered a stroke, but Spanish media says sources close to the singer have spoken to American Spanish-language TV broadcaster Telemundo and confirmed the issue was related to deep vein thrombosis.

The Mirror reports that the condition has not affected her brain while the Colombian singer has not officially released a statement on the incident yet.

According to reports by Telemundo and Spanish press, doctors discovered Shakira’s mum’s health problem after she didn't feel well and requested medical assistance. The publications added Nidia was rushed to hospital as a matter of urgency last week, but is now "out of danger".

This comes after reports surfaced that Shakira's father, William Mabarak, has been struggling with his health following an operation last year. The 91-year-old was hospitalised in Barcelona after a fall.

Following her split from Gerard Pique, Shakira was expected to move her family to Florida earlier this year with her sons Milan, ten, and Sasha, eight, after signing a child custody agreement with her ex. It's been alleged that her plans were delayed due to her father's operation, and it is unclear whether Shakira's plans will once again be put on hold.

Shakira and Pique, who split last year after a decade together, confirmed in November they had signed a child custody agreement after a protracted negotiation which came to a head during a marathon 12-hour meeting with their lawyers. They signed the accord at a court in Barcelona in December.

The agreement sees the former Spain football star spend holiday time with his children.

In a joint statement regarding their children, they said: "We wish to communicate that we have signed an agreement that guarantees the welfare of our children and that will be ratified in court as part of a mere formal procedure.

"Our sole objective is to provide them with the upmost security and protection, and we trust that their privacy will be respected. We appreciate the interest shown and hope that the children can continue with their lives with the necessary privacy in a safe and calm environment."
