Shakira returns to a soccer field after her traumatic breakup from Piqué with Copa America final performance

MIAMI - Shakira is returning to a soccer field for the first time since her complicated separation from Spanish ex-soccer player Gerard Piqué, her ex-romantic partner and the father of her children. CONMEBOL has confirmed that the Colombian star will be performing for the first time in the history of the Copa América, the oldest national team tournament in the world.

Shakira will be the first musical act during the halftime of the final, which will take place on Sunday, July 14, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, before an audience of more than 60,000 people.

Shakira, who has performed at the biggest events in the world, such as the Super Bowl and three World Cups, is already an icon in the sports world. She will return to the stage with a combination of her well-known anthems and her latest hits.

Shakira's relationship with soccer

"Shakira is an extraordinary South American star who has dazzled the entire world. Her songs are sung and danced to in every corner of the planet, turning her art into a global phenomenon that crosses borders and is enjoyed by millions of people. We are sure that her performance at the Copa América USA 2024 will enhance the message of healthy passion and unity through sport," said Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL.

The final of the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024 will take place on Sunday, July 14 at 8:00 p.m. (local time.) It will be broadcast in Vix and Univision.

"Puntería," Shakira's song ft. Cardi B, will be no doubt part of the lineup during the half-time of Copa América. This track is the official song for TelevisaUnivision's broadcast of this year's Copa America.

Following the success of her new album "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran," one of the most streamed albums of the year, Shakira will begin her highly anticipated world tour with 17 concerts across the United States, starting on November 2 in Palm Desert, CA. She will return to Miami on November 22 and 23, this time at the Kaseya Arena.

This will be Shakira's first performance since she sang in front of a crowd of over 40,000 people at Times Square's TSX Stage with a surprise performance, marking the largest audience for a live performance in that location.

Her return to the soccer field feels like another closure of her problematic relationship with Piqué. The former couple fell in love during the filming of her song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," the theme song for the 2010 World Cup, held in South Africa.

The musical number at the opening of Copa América was also in the hands of a Colombian artist. Reggeaton artist Feid performed at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
