Shailene Woodley returned to the Emmys red carpet on September 14 for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in a look that quickly became one of the night's most talked-about fashion moments. The actress, who won her first Emmy the week before for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Hulu's "Paradise," arrived at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles wearing a piece from Pierpaolo Piccioli's debut Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2026 Haute Couture collection.
The look paired a plunging periwinkle halter top with gold sequin-beaded, wide-leg trousers, a combination that departed sharply from the traditional gown silhouettes that typically dominate the Emmys carpet. On Balenciaga's runway, the same top and trouser pairing had been shown beneath an oversized black hooded cloak. Woodley opted to leave the cloak behind, instead finishing the look with burgundy leather opera gloves and a colorful gemstone necklace made from Venetian glass by Howl Jewelry. Her hair was slicked back into a low ponytail, and the ensemble was styled by Karla Welch.
