LUDHIANA: In another anti-evasion operation undertaken by the mobile wing of the State GST (SGST) department on Monday, a search and seizure operation was conducted on two edible oil traders in Ludhiana both of which are related.
Different teams of department headed by additional commissioner of SGST department Punjab Viraj S Tidke and director enforcement HPS Ghotra simultaneously struck at two offices located in Kesarganj Mandi and JMD Mall today. The teams were accompanied by heavy police force to assist them in taking the action which has been conducted on suspicion of tax evasion by these firms.
Giving more information, a highly placed source in the department said, “Today a search and seizure operation was carried out at the offices of YK Enterprises and Shree Ashok Enterprises which are located at JMD Mall and in Kesarganj Mandi. The action was conducted after the SGST officials found several discrepancies hinting towards tax evasion in the data mining report generated by them through its special software. Both the entities deal in the business of edible oil of several types and fatty acids and are sister concern owned by the same family. On earlier occasion truck laden with edible oil (which belonged to one of the companies) was intercepted by the SGST department and it was found to be without genuine documents which further led to the suspicion of tax evasion by them”
Source also added, “In today’s action, cache of documents, mobile phones, digital devices, books of accounts have been impounded which will be examined to ascertain the irregularities and the quantum of the tax evasion. The search which was headed personally by additional commissioner Viraj S Tidke and director enforcement HPS Ghotra lasted for about six hours and it is expected that department will earn decent amount of tax and penalty in this case. Further more entities have been identified by SGST department who in the same trade and are involved in the clandestine sales and evasion of tax, action against them is likely very soon”
State Taxation Officers (STO) Vivek Sood, Satwant Tiwana , Sumeet Thapar , Lakhvir Chahal , Randhir Dhanoa, Saurav Brar and other officers of SGST department were also part of this search and seizure operation.
