Sex Education star and now Bafta Rising Star winner, Emma Mackey, has confirmed that she's leaving the Netflix favourite after filming wrapped on series four. The English-French actress has played teenager Maeve Wiley in the Netflix series since its debut on the streaming service in 2019.
At the Baftas on Sunday, February 19, Emma collected the Rising Star award, which is voted for by the public, and spoke about the show on which she found fame, The Sun reports that she said she'd 'said goodbye' to the character that made her famous.
"Season 5? I've just finished the fourth one last week!" she said, before adding: "I don't think I'll be in season five." She confirmed: "I've said goodbye to Maeve."

Ahead of filming Sex Education, which has been spotted in various spots in Wales, Emma had said: "It feels very familiar! And it's a bit more sporadic because we have more characters. So there's… I'm not in it as consistently.
"But we're in the middle of filming now, and I'm excited to be back," she added. "And yeah, I'm intrigued to know what's going to happen – because I also don't know. I'm also finding out as we go along, so it'll be fun!"
At the end of series three, Maeve jetted off to America and the actress has been sharing scenes with Schitt's Creek star, Dan Levy. Emma has also been seen in big screen movies Death on the Nile and Emily Bronte biopic, Emily, and alongside her Sex Education co-star, Ncuti Gatwa, she will also be in the upcoming Barbie movie from Greta Gerwig.
Of course, Ncuti has also left the Netflix show, in which he played Eric Effiong since it started, back in 2019. The Rawandan-Scottish star is the brand new Doctor Who and hasn't left Wales for his huge career moves, with the BBC sci-fi series now filming across locations in Wales.
