Sevilla to help FCBU realise ISL dream

BENGALURU: Second division club FC Bengaluru United's road map to emerge as one of the top clubs in the country got a boost as the club strengthened its ties with Spanish giants Sevilla FC more than a year into their partnership.

Addressing a press conference during a visit of the top brass of the Spanish club to Bengaluru including club president Jose Castro Carmona and CEO Jose Maria Cruz, FCBU owner Gaurav Manchanda said his young club will look to benefit from the best practices of Sevilla.

Sevilla CEO Cruz said the club will help FCBU reach the top of Indian football. "FCBU has the ambition to grow quickly to reach the ISL in two years. We intend to provide our assistance through our sports managers, coaches, and academy. If necessary, we will also help them to find the best players and coaches. In turn FCBU will help Sevilla FC to be more popular in India," Cruz said.

"We never had the intention to invest in any Indian football club though we have been offered to join some clubs in the ISL. We prefer to cooperate with entrepreneurs who have a project for the future. Our target is to work with children, young players and establish good practices with the use of technology."

"We want to offer FCBU our platforms to help them recruit better players and analysis of their opponents as we are very strong in these. We are also working with their academy to develop young players. Our academy coaches will conduct clinics here. We are also open to the possibility of FC Bengaluru's young talent to train with our players in Spain. We are working on creating joint football schools not only in Bengaluru but across India," Cruz added.
