Severn Trent has issued a message to customers after a "large increase" in water usage. The water provider sent a text on Saturday, July 16 asking people to put sprinklers and hosepipes away to ensure everyone has enough water to last.
The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, with temperatures expected to top 37C on Tuesday (July 19). A red warning, meaning it's very likely there will be a high impact, is in place from 12am on Monday (July 18) through to 11.59pm on Tuesday, and is the highest warning that can be issued.
In a message to customers, Severn Trent said: "The hot weather is here and we want everyone to stay safe and hydrated. We are seeing a large increase in water use across the region. Please put the sprinklers and hosepipes away for a few days so we can keep the water flowing for all."
Eight schools in Nottinghamshire will be closed for two days next week after the extreme weather warning was issued. Academies and schools under Archway Learning Trust, including Bluecoat Wollaton, Aspley and Beechdale along with Nottingham Emmanuel School in West Bridgford, will remain shut on Monday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 19.
