Severn Trent has issued a plea to Nottinghamshire residents to use less water with levels of water being 'low' following a dry Spring period. The water company has said that due to an unusually dry Spring which saw 40% less rain has resulted in reservoirs being "lower than we'd liked".
Now, with dry and warm weather forecast for the coming weeks, the company is concerned that people will be using lots of water during the summer period. Therefore, Severn Trent has asked homeowners to "work together" to ensure that they use less water over the next nine weeks.
Severn Trent has offered some helpful tips to help you reduce how much water you use:
Shorter showers
If every person in a family of four halved their daily shower time from 10 to five minutes they could save almost £700 a year.
Ditch the sprinkler
A hose or sprinkler uses around 1,000 litres an hour. Severn Trent has advised using a watering can instead.
Clean and shiny
Put the jet on washer away and use a bucket and sponge to clean your car.
Check for leaks
Severn Trent says you may be flushing money away. You can order a free dye tablet here to check for a leak.
A spokesperson for Severn Trent said: "We've had a dry Spring with 40% less rain in April resulting in reservoirs being than we'd like. And in the next few months we all tend to use more water as it gets hotter.
"With raw water levels being lower than we would like, and demand due to be high, we all need to work together to keep everyone's taps running this summer. We need you and your family to use less water over the next nine weeks.
"And if you're already doing your bit, we'd like you to talk to your neighbours, family and friends, too.
