Several injured in Sweden school sword attack, suspect held

Several people were injured after a person armed with a sword attacked a high school in Fagersta, central Sweden, on Friday, authorities said.

Police said they received a call about an ongoing incident involving deadly violence at the school and responded to the scene. One person has been taken into custody.

Authorities have not disclosed how many people were injured or provided details about their condition.

Police were searching the school premises, while other schools in the area were placed under lockdown as a precaution. Ambulances, police vehicles and a helicopter were seen outside the school, Swedish broadcaster SVT reported.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer said the government was in close contact with police following the “serious incident”.
