Several areas in Valasaravakkam cry for basic amenities

CHENNAI: Valasaravakkam became part of Greater Chennai Corporation in 2011, but parts such as Thundalam still lack not only water and sewage connections but also a proper road. Thundalam, under ward 150, lies behind Sri Ramachandra Medical University.

Eri Karai Street hasn’t been re-laid for nearly five years. “It was first dug up in 2017 for storm water drain work. Then they said Metrowater would begin work and did not lay the road. In November 2019, Metrowater began sewage pipeline laying work. It is yet to be completed. Now, metro rail work has begun and there is not a single carriage way in this area of more than 50 streets that is motorable,” said V Pugalvendhan, a civic activist,.
