- Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, 26, of Glendale, Kentucky, has been named as the seventh U.S. military member killed in the war with Iran.
- Pennington died of his wounds on March 8, 2026, after being injured in an enemy attack on March 1, 2026, at Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia, the defense department said. He was assigned to 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade, Fort Carson, Colo.
- Pennington’s death follows the deaths of six US Army Reserve members who were killed by a drone strike at a command center in Kuwait. The six soldiers were from the 103rd Sustainment Command and died a day after the US and Israel launched a joint military campaign against Iran on February 28.
- The conflict has escalated, with over 1,230 people killed in Iran, more than 300 in Lebanon, and about a dozen in Israel, following US-Israel strikes and Iranian retaliation.
