Seven scramblers and a quad bike seized in Garda raids in Dublin suburbs

Gardai seized seven scrambler motorbikes and one quad bike in Ballyfermot and Clondalkinhouse raids.

There were no arrests made in connection with the seizure of the off-road vehicles.

The use of scramblers and quad bikes in residential areas has been heavily criticised by TDs in the area.

Sinn Fein's Paul Donnelly has been calling for legislation to tackle "this scourge on our communities."

So far, two of the seized bikes have been confirmed to have been stolen.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Clondalkin carried out a planned operation this morning Wednesday 26th January, 2022 to target the illegal use of scrambler motorbikes in the Ballyfermot and Clondalkin area in recent times.

"As part of the operation a total of five (5) residential properties were searched under warrant as a result of ongoing investigations into a number of incidents of criminal damage in public parks and endangerment to members of the public by the users of these high powered motorbikes.

"As a result of the searches a total of seven (7) scrambler motorbikes and one quad bike were seized. At this stage of the investigation two of the bikes seized are confirmed as stolen and we are currently in the process of reuniting them with their rightful owners."

They added: "No persons were arrested during this morning's operation and investigations are ongoing."
