Seven hours of thunderstorms expected to hit Wales after Met Office records 36,000 lightning strikes

Some parts of Wales will see up to seven hours of thunderstorms on Monday after more than 36,000 lightning strikes were recorded in and around the UK in just 12 hours.

Cardiff is one of the areas of Wales that will see the most disruption with thunderstorms expected between 3pm and 10pm. The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorms warning for large parts of Wales. See more on that here. It is forecasting an unsettled week for Wales with "low pressure bringing sunshine and showers".

The Met Offices forecast for Wales on Monday says that the day will start off bright with sunny spells and a few showers. But the weather will worsen as the day goes on, with the forecast saying: "Turning more unsettled later in the afternoon as bands of heavy showers and thunderstorms move northeast across the country. Feeling warm and muggy with a blustery southerly wind. Maximum temperature 25 °C."
