Seven Greater Manchester boroughs now have coronavirus infection rates lower than 1,000

Coronavirus infection rates are continuing to plummet in all ten Greater Manchester boroughs, as seven now report infection of numbers of less than 1,000 per 100,000 people.

Latest data has revealed that rates are continuing to fall across the region, with seven boroughs now with rates below the national average for England.

Tameside continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with 1076.5 cases per 100,000 people as of week ending January 16.

The lowest infection rate is in Stockport, where the rate is 853.9 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 940.5 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 971.1 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 26,670 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on January 16.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 28262 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 51 per cent in the last week..

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on January 16, a total of 967 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 166 fewer than the week before, a fall of 21%.

On Tuesday January 18, there were 38 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is 166 fewer than a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

Deaths

In the week ending January 16, a total of 121 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 6 more than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 769,390 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,313 deaths.

Rochdale

There were 2247 positive tests over the last week in Rochdale, which is 2357 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Rochdale is down by 51 per cent and the latest infection rate is 1004.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Salford

The trend is down in Salford, where there were 2466 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 16, which is 3151 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 56 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Salford is 938.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Bury

Bury recorded 1832 coronavirus cases, which is 1612 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Bury is 960.6 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 47 per cent week-on-week.

Oldham

There was a fall of 52 per cent in cases in Oldham over the week ending January 16, and the infection rate is now 892.6 cases per 100,000 population.

Oldham recorded 2121 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 2264 fewer than the previous week.

Stockport

Stockport, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 2512 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 16, which is 2782 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Stockport is now 853.9 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 53 per cent week-on-week.

Wigan

Wigan is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 872.7 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 2886 cases recorded in Wigan, which is 4131 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 59 per cent.

Bolton

In Bolton, the latest infection rate is 1002.6 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 50 per cent.

A total of 2890 people tested positive for Covid in Bolton over the seven days ending on January 16, which is 2928 fewer than the week before.

Trafford

In Trafford, the number of cases is down by 51 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 885.2 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 2103 positive Covid-19 tests in Trafford in the week ending January 16, which was 2198 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside

In Tameside, there were 2445 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 16, which is 2213 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Tameside is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 48 per cent.

Manchester

Manchester saw a total of 5168 cases in the week ending January 16, which is 4626 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 47 per cent.

In Manchester, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 929.9 cases per 100,000 people.
