Seven fire engines sent to tackle blaze at Inverness restaurant

Fire crews in Inverness are tackling a large fire in a city centre restaurant that has temporarily closed roads in the area.

Seven fire appliances were sent to EscoBar, a Mexican eatery and bar, on the Queensgate next to its junction with Academy Street. Images shared on social media showed thick smoke pouring from the side street and into the sky as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

The blaze, which was reported to have started shortly after 3pm on Thursday, is believed to be under control, but a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was unable to confirm this at the time of publication. In the meantime, buses have been diverted away from the central thoroughfare and locals have been advised to find alternative routes.
