Seven districts in Kerala on yellow alert today

KOCHI: Under the influence of trough over the south Peninsula, there will be isolated heavy rainfall over south Kerala on Friday and Saturday.

IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall of 7-11cm for seven districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki, on Friday. Five districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki, are on yellow alert on Saturday. Warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty wind with speed reaching 30-40kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala on these two days.

Meanwhile, according to the 24-hour rainfall recording on Thursday, the highest rainfall was recorded at Kurudamannil in Pathanamthitta at 9 cm, while Ernakulam South got 8cm and the Naval airport area recorded 7cm.
