Seven Disneyland employees have been hospitalized as a hazmat situation unfolded at the popular California theme park Tuesday afternoon.
The employees were taken to the hospital for “minor injuries” following an “unknown odor” in a backstage area near the Star Tours attraction, the Anaheim Police Department told The Independent.
Anaheim Fire and Rescue responded to the incident around 12:30 p.m. local time.
The Disneyland employees suffered from injuries “ranging from dizziness to shortness of breath,” Anaheim Police said.
Disneyland officials said several other employees were treated by medical personnel at the park and later released.
The mysterious odor came from “building contractor materials,” according to authorities.
There were no immediate reports of park guests being injured by the incident.
Park visitors were cleared from onstage areas near where the incident occurred as a precaution, per Disneyland officials.
“Emergency personnel are clearing the scene now, and park operations have resumed,” Anaheim Police said.
Star Tours is located in the Tomorrowland area of Disneyland. It’s a 3D Star Wars-themed ride that takes guests to destinations from the media franchise.
Disneyland has been a popular tourist destination since it opened in 1955. It has had 900 million visitors since its opening, the Los Angeles Times reported in January, citing the documentary Disneyland Handcrafted.
