LUCKNOW: Urbanisation in the state is being driven by seven cities in an aggressive manner. An analysis conducted by the housing and urban planning department showed that maximum new construction and development work in Uttar Pradesh during the 2022-23 financial year took place in Lucknow followed by Ghaziabad.
Interestingly, Gorakhpur in eastern UP has emerged as the strongest magnet which seems to be drawing the population settled in Purvanchal for better prospects. Gorakhpur recorded increased construction work compared to other regional headquarters such as Agra, Meerut, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Bareilly and Jhansi.
Besides Lucknow and Ghaziabad, the other five growth centres, in terms of new construction activity, were Kanpur, Mathura, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Vrindavan and Agra. The group of seven cities cornered more than 60% of planned construction work in Uttar Pradesh.
