‘Serious questions’ as pension funds invest millions in firms operating in Russia

SCOTLAND’S largest council pension funds have around £230 million invested in Western companies continuing to operate in Russia almost a year after Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Analysis by The Ferret found that Lothian Pension Fund (LPF) and Strathclyde Pension Fund (SPF) invest in firms such as consumer goods giant Unilever, the mining firm Glencore, HSBC, British American Tobacco (BAT), and Reckitt, which owns Durex condoms and Dettol surface cleaner.

Last June we revealed that LPF and SPF had £448m invested in firms which were still doing business in Russia, despite calls for businesses to pull out.
