Serial killer Peter Tobin refused to 'do the right thing' before he died after failing to reveal the truth about his victims' deaths, Police Scotland said.
Murderer and rapist Tobin died this morning after previously being diagnosed with cancer.
The 76-year-old monster had been serving a life sentence at HMP Edinburgh for the cruel killings of Angelika Kluk, Vicky Hamilton and Dinah McNicol.
While Tobin was serving three life sentences for brutally slaying the three women between 1991 and 2006, he has also been linked to a string of unsolved murders.
Police said despite their best efforts, the vile killer did not disclose any information which could assist their investigations.
Detective Chief Superintendent Laura Thomson, head of major crime, said: “Our thoughts are with the victims of Peter Tobin, their families and friends.
“Recent attempts to encourage him to do the right thing and share any knowledge he may have which could assist the police were unsuccessful.
“While we have no current lines of investigation into Peter Tobin, we welcome any information in relation to his activities.”
The families of Tobin's victims had previously begged him to reveal the truth about how they died.
Nicola Stork, whose sister Louise Kay was strongly suspected to be a victim of Tobin's also said: “I don’t want Tobin to die because it means we might never know but I’ve got no sympathy if he’s in pain.
“If he dies without giving us information about Louise, then it probably means we’ll never know what happened to her or where she is.
“I hope he will confess something or the police can go and speak to him to get it out of him.”
Former detective David Swindle, who caught Tobin and led the task force looking at his other crimes, said: “No tears will be shed for Tobin. Hopefully some day we will find out the extent of what he’s done. Sadly he’s taking his secrets with him to the grave. “He was the worst of people, a horrible individual.”
Tobin's death is not being treated as suspicious.
