Sergio Reguilon jets back for Tottenham pre-season with transfer future in balance

Sergio Reguilon appears ready for a return to Tottenham ahead of the start of pre-season training.

A social media post from the Spanish defender on Friday showed him preparing to fly back to London for what could be a quick visit, amid the speculation over his transfer future.

New Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou will welcome a skeleton squad of Tottenham players back to work on Saturday as pre-season begins for the north London club.

Reguilon is set to be among the non-internationals beginning the 2023-24 campaign this weekend while the likes of Harry Kane and James Maddison are due in on July 10 after their summer matches.

Antonio Conte sent the left-back out on loan to Atletico Madrid last summer yet he only featured 12 times in an injury-hit campaign.

Reports in Spain suggest there is interest in Reguilon’s signature, including from Osasuna should Spurs be willing to accept a nominal fee for the 26-year-old - who has two years left on his Tottenham contract.

Nonetheless, Postecoglou is expected to oversee a signfificant squad clearout with Eric Dier, Hugo Lloris and Davinson Sanchez joining Reguilon in being up for the chop.

Destiny Udogie could return from his loan spell at Udinese to challenge for the left-back berth with the Australian boss tipped to switch to a 4-3-3 system, which could suit the Italian plus current options Ivan Perisic and Ben Davies.
