Sergio Aguero claims he told Pep Guardiola to start playing ‘blue prince’ Phil Foden for Manchester City

Sergio Aguero has revealed that he told Pep Guardiola to give Phil Foden a chance before the Manchester City star’s breakthrough.

The 21-year-old has been touted as a major star of the future since his first-team emergence in 2016, before his debut the following year under Guardiola and while Aguero was still at the club.

For Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final clash between City and Real Madrid, the former striker hosted a watch party on his Twitch channel during which he commentated on the match with Mario Balotelli.

After Foden struck to make it 3-1 to his old team, Aguero revealed his role in the midfielder’s emergence.

“Foden, my blue prince, my chick,” he exclaimed.

“Well Foden, I told you Mario... Foden started playing because I asked Pep to play him more.”

Aguero joined the fans around the world in appreciating the quality on show at the Etihad Stadium and believes City can be satisfied despite a late Karim Benzema penalty that halved their advantage.

“A great game,” he noted. “4-3 seems like a lot but it's like winning 1-0. It was won, that's the important thing. Now onto Madrid.”
