Sergej Milinkovic-Savic transfer stance revealed amid 'very serious' Arsenal interest

Lazio "are convinced" that star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will remain at the club during the transfer window, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

With the Serbian international's contract set to expire in 2024, Arsenal are joined by the likes of Manchester United and Juventus in seeing their desire to sign Milinkovic-Savic reported.

Milinkovic-Savic, who has long been a subject of interest from the Gunners and fellow Premier League sides, has registered 12 direct goal contributions in 20 appearances this season for Maurizio Sarri's side.

Despite currently sitting top of the Premier League, the Gunners are expected to bolster Mikel Arteta's squad in January and 90min.com claim that aforementioned interest is "very serious."

The same report states that Arsenal have held talks with the 27-year-old's agents. football.london reported in the summer that Arsenal were in the market for a midfielder and it is likely that those plans remain in place after failing to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.

However, Romano outlined the perspective of Milinkovic-Savic's current club on the House of Champions YouTube channel. "It’s not an easy one at all to sign Milinkovic-Savic in January," he explained.

"I was speaking to Lazio sources a few days ago and they are 100% convinced that the player will stay there at least until the end of the season.

"He’s out of contract next year in 2024 and this is why there are many rumours around Milinkovic.

"Lazio will try to extend his contract and will try to negotiate, but their expectation is for the player to stay in January and they’ve not received any approach from Arsenal or any other club or any official bid."

It will be intriguing to see whether Arsenal pursue a midfield move this month.

A significant knee injury to Gabriel Jesus has forced the club to prioritise attacking reinforcements such as Ukrainian sensation Mykhaylo Mudryk and Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix.
